DOCTOR OF PHILOSOPHY IN DEVELOPMENT STUDIES

Programme Overview

Introduction

The Doctor of Philosophy in Development Studies course provides advanced studies in the main disciplines of Development Studies including: Child Youth and Development, Conflict Management and Peace Building, Disaster Management, Development Economics, Human Resources Development, Innovations, Practice and Institutions for Sustainability, Poverty, Inequality and Development, and Transformational Leadership and Governance. The programme will be delivered in a combination of taught courses and independent research. In the first year, all the students will be required to study eight compulsory foundational units.

Duration

The full-time students will be expected to complete in a minimum of three years, while the part-time students will be expected to complete in a minimum of four years. The maximum duration will be six years, after which the student will be expected to apply for extension to Senate through the Board of Post Graduate Studies.
